Chenendopora fungiformis

Lamouroux 1821

Chenendopora fungiformis is a rare, funnel-shaped tetracladine sponge.

It is a peculiar sponge, because at a certain growth stage, a new funnel forms at a point on the older funnel margin, leading to characteristic habits. The two figures show an example from Höver.
